To Help the Heart:
......Medicines and Lifestyle Modifications

1. Aspirin, coated, 5 grains, 1 daily (Please read aspirin product warnings)
2. Vitamin E, 400 units, 1 daily (an antioxident)
3. Folic acid 0.4 mg, 2 daily (to lower homocystine levels)
4. Vitamin B6, 50 mg, 1 daily (to lower homocystine levels)
5. Fish oil (Omega 3 type)
6. If not contraindicated (for medical, religious, or psychological reasons), 1 or 2 drinks of alcohol daily Men 1 or 2, Women 1 only - (No more than this) - to raise HDL levels
7. No smoking!!!! (Nicotine Replacement Gum or patches are ok to try to stop, and behavior modification programs are very effective)
8. Careful low fat/low cholesterol diet
9. If needed, control of blood fats with medications also
10. Regular exercise 30-40 minutes - 5-7 days per week (to get HR 110-115/min)
11. Strive to maintain ideal body weight
12. Maintain ideal blood pressure with weight loss or medications
13. Control of Blood Sugar if diabetic with diet/exercise/medications
